Oral Systemic Health Project.
Reframing how oral health is
understood by the public.
About
Us
Our Story
Oral health impacts an individual's life in many different ways, and it even has an impact at the community level. Communities that lack educational resources and access to care will suffer from poor oral health outcomes, which will directly impact overall body health and cause financial, emotional, and social stress that could have been prevented. With our custom educational resources and community outreach, we will help the underserved communities better understand oral health.
Who We Are
Oral Systemic Health Project is an organization at the University of Southern California that strives to reframe how oral health is understood by the public. We share educational resources and provide free health screenings in underserved communities and conduct public health research.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide education and screenings to help create a community that is well informed about oral health and its relevance to overall well-being, and investigate how external factors relate to oral health behaviors and how these behaviors relate to overall
well-being.
What
We
Do
Outreach
The Outreach Committee partners with outside organizations such as Good Karma LA and Wealth by Health to host volunteer events, giving our members opportunities to give back to the local community while also gaining valuable hands-on experience. In addition, we play a key role in organizing fundraisers throughout the year to not only to raise funds to support club
operations but also spread awareness of our mission as well.
Education
The education committee works on two major topics and programming. Spark the scientist aims to humanize the healthcare field by bringing our own USC faculty to speak at neighboring high schools and share their stories and advice as they make their way through their four years. The college workshop program partners our club with local high schools to act as mentors throughout the college process, mainly for juniors and seniors, although we work with all grade levels.
Research
The research committee conducts studies on topics related to oral health through using surveys to explore important correlations and trends. After analyzing data, we produce and publish papers that contribute to a deeper understanding of oral health and promote healthier practices within the community.
